As I read this comment above regarding: Ivan Lendl’s "last title, Tokyo (indoor) in 1993, was a 6-4, 6-4 win over Todd Martin and his last final, Sydney," I cannot help but to remember meeting the all time Greatest Player, Rod Laver at a tournament in Chestnut Hill, Boston Ma in the early nighties (90's) when Lendl had also beaten Todd Martin handily around 12 Midnight. However, the most amazing thought that had been on my friend Frank and my mind on that night, was that Bud and Rod had been up in the bleacher seats with us and enjoying the match as well. I had said to Frank, "let's go over and get Rod's autograph" but he was to shy. Therefore, I had approached Rod, who was sitting to the left of Bud, and I had politely asked, and had recieved, two autographs that late summer night from Rod. One was for me and another one for a my shy friend Frank. My only regret though, is that I had not asked Bud for his autograph as well. I guess that I was just to nervous as how many people get to meet there "Tennis Hero's" in the pitch black of midnight way up in the bleacher seats? Anyway this is my last chance to formally ask Bud for his autograph as well. As a club tennis player from the 60's to the late 90's, I have watched every Tennis match that I could find on TV. And along with each match, I had been a big fan of Bud's as well. I had loved the way that he had interviewed the player's, as well as their responses, in either winning or loosing the match. Bud had alway's (respectfully) nailed the story, as the Greatest Sports Journalist ever. Thanks Bud! Sincerely, Eric Erickson :>)

In the 1980's I played hockey with Mr Lendl at the Dorthy Hamil rink in Greenwich. He couldn't skate and couldn't handle the punk but was a great sportsman and "us hockey players" gave him the same consideration he would have given us on the tennis court.
Bud, I had the pleasure of meeting and playing with Lendl years ago. He was voluble and fun. So unlike the persona on the court. He is under appreciated as tennis giant and person. I hope he gets involved with the game. He could be such an asset.
