BUD KNOCKED OUT OF US OPEN DUE TO INJURY
NEW YORK – An abrupt end to our US Open -
Bud and Anita in the South Plaza US Open
Bud had a small fall Sunday, suffering a complete rupture of his quad tendon.
After being cared for attentively by the medical team at the US Open, headed by Brian Hainline, it was determined that he needed surgery as soon as possible.
And so we headed back to Boston for that surgery, at the New England Baptist Hospital. We will miss being at the second week of the US Championships, the 57th Bud has covered.
While the US Open was being rained out, Bud’s team at the New England Baptist Hospital was taking great care of Bud. Dr. Sumon Nandi operated for more than two and a half hours on Bud’s ruptured quad tendon and now it is as good as new, or at least we hope it will be …..
They kept Bud 24 hours in the ICU for “observation.” He is now back in a comfortable room and is looking forward to the HARD work , all that physical therapy lies ahead.
He will miss writing about the second week of the US Open and hopes the rains stop so some tennis can be played. He sends warm wishes and will be back with you soon.

Bud, I’ve really missed seeing you and hearing your delightful commentaries the last few years. Starting watching/playing in 1983, you and John McEnroe were highlights for me! Best for a complete recovery.

Dear Bud-
Sorry to hear about your the rupture of the quad tendon. Obviously this was the result of your running up those Stadium steps instead of taking the press box elevator. I understand that the surgery must be accomplished fairly quickly and apparently it was in your case.
Of course the physical therapy will be a drag, but hopefully it will be complete and swift. Needless to say, you have Nurse Anita by your side, and I expect not only that she will provide you with the necessary TLC and support, but that Anita will provide us all with some creative photography of your foot, quads, tendons and toes from all types of views and angles.
See you at next year’s US Opeb or before and a belated Happy Birthday!

What a Men’s Final – Both played tremendous tennis and Djokovic seems like he is a contortionist in runnng down the balls.
Stosur really put it together against Serena. Looks like Serena has to improve her sportsmanship when she is on the losing side.

Sorry to hear of your accident and best wishes for a full recovery.
I stayed up in UK listening to the Men’s final on the radio (Jeff Tarango and Pat Cash what a combo) until after 1am it was that gripping! I hope Nadal is as determined as he appears to strike back at the remarkable Novak. 2012 should be another great year on the Men’s tour. Antony.
